Formed: 1st September 1936 as the "Saltzwedel" Flotilla. Designation changed in January 1940 to 2nd U-Flotilla. 

Disbanded: May 1945 (ceased to function as U-boat Flotilla in October 1944)

Bases: Wilhelmshaven (1936 to 1940)    Lorient (1940 to 1945).

From 90 operational U-boats 58 were sunk by enemy action - 64% of the total flotilla operational strength.
